A cryptocurrency developer has found out what the first version of bitcoin developed by Satoshi Nakamoto was like
Jim Blasco, a crypto enthusiast and developer, claimed to have discovered «the official oldest known downloaded version of Satoshi's code.»
In a post on Facebook on October 7, Blasco said that he found the code, which dates back to before Satoshi published his virtual currency concept and made bitcoin public. The previously lost version was found on the open-source software development platform SourceForge, where the Bitcoin project was registered in November 2008.
«This particular download was thought to be lost, but after studying some old 'coins', I went to [SourceForge] and … found the lost bitcoin code v0.1 data and X files,» Blasko said. «Since 2012, this code and files were believed to be missing because for some reason they were removed from the search engine [SourceForge] […] I did some digging and was able to find the source code.»
According to the two SourceForge links provided by Blasco, Satoshi’s personal notes included remarks about why Bitcoin used base-58 «instead of the standard base-64 encoding» and questions about what to do with bugs in the future:
As a reminder, the first bitcoin block (Genesis Block) was mined on January 3, 2009. It was recently reported that the founder of the #1 cryptocurrency was considering an alternative name for bitcoin.
