Developer of WWW and HTML technologies urges users to ignore blockchain technologies

2:11 pm, November 9, 2022

Tim Berners-Lee, the chief developer of the World Wide Web (WWW) and the author of HTTP, HTML, and URI, urged users to ignore the hype around Web3 technologies, as the IT specialist is convinced that blockchain does not solve any problems, but rather creates them.

Speaking at the Web Summit conference recently held in Lisbon, the scientist said that neither developers nor ordinary users fully understand the significance of blockchain technologies. «You have to realize what the terms we are discussing really mean, and not use them because they are buzzwords,» Berners-Lee said.

The father of the World Wide Web said that blockchain protocols are too slow, expensive and public, and that personal data stores should be fast, cheap and private. However, Tim Berners-Lee already has a solution — the developer presented his new web decentralization project Solid, which aims to radically change the way applications are created. The author of Solid emphasized that his project will be guided by the principle of confidentiality and will transfer ownership of data to users.

Joseph Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum and CEO of the cryptographic software giant ConsenSys, would definitely disagree with Tim Berners-Lee, who is confident that in the long run, metaverse and the Web3 industry will become an integral part of everyday life. In an interview with Decrypt, Lubin admitted that despite the interest of various technology companies in metaverse, this industry has not yet gained the status of an accessible space that functions smoothly for its users. However, Lyubin is convinced that in the future virtual reality will become a full-fledged version of the Internet and will provide the maximum immersion effect in the digital environment.
