Developer delivers an angry speech about NFT at a game festival in Brazil
Indie developer Mark Venturelli gave an angry speech about non-fungible tokens at the NFT festival — the audience supported Venturelli’s critical remarks.
Chroma Squad game developer Mark Venturelli was an invited guest at an international gaming festival in Brazil sponsored by Lakea and Ripio, blockchain and NFT companies. The topic of the indie developer’s presentation was «The Future of Geodesy,» but Venturelli began his talk with an angry criticism of NFTs, calling them a «nightmare.»
Interestingly, according to Venturelli, he coordinated the entire text and slides of his speech with the organizers, who did not demand any changes. The audience supported the developer’s critical statements, which is not the case with the festival’s NFT sponsors — they tried to stop the speech, but the festival administration did not allow them to interfere.According to Venturelli, he sees non-fungible tokens as a threat to the gaming industry: companies working with NFTs and blockchain «take» customers from game developers, leaving them «with nothing.»
Obviously, it is not only some game developers who criticize NFTs, as gamers recently opposed the integration of NFTs into a new Ubisoft game. According to fans, the developers wanted to make extra money using the blockchain. Back in March, at the Gaming Developers Conference 2022, representatives of large gaming companies assured that they were not interested in cryptocurrencies.
