Ethereum developers may postpone the date of transition to the «green» blockchain: two serious problems have been identified

Ethereum developers have taken the last step before the largest blockchain update by implementing the Bellatrix hard fork, but some technical nuances have raised doubts among cryptocurrency experts and developers about Ethereum’s readiness for The Merge.

One of the serious problems that could become an obstacle to the transition of Ethereum to the «green» blockchain was the degree of readiness of the ETH nodes. On the eve of the Bellatrix hard fork, almost 73% of ETN nodes were ready to switch to the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm, while 27% had not been updated at the time of the Bellatrix hard fork. If not all PoS validators are configured correctly, operators will be stuck in incompatible nodes and will not be able to work in the Ethereum network after the update.

The second problem is the frequency of missed blocks. After Bellatrix, this figure increased by 1700% from 0.5% to 9%. This is a huge increase that affects the entire ecosystem. Experts explained that the more node operators that have not yet updated their software, the greater the threat of missed blocks in confirmation nodes. According to Ethnodes, 25.2% of Ethereum nodes have not yet updated their software.

Accordingly, the main task for Ethereum developers is to oblige all node operators to update their software. «I think this is a huge problem, we need to educate users,» said Marius Van Der Weyden, one of the ethereum developers.
