Zuckerberg’s developers criticize virtual reality from Meta
The developers of Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta have criticized their own metaverse, with too many bugs and image quality issues, Meta employees have said.
As The Verge journalists found out, the Horizon Worlds metaverse did not meet the expectations of its developers. According to company representatives, even the specialists who worked on the creation of the metaverse do not want to use the application.
«The feedback from our developers, users, testers, and many other team members is that due to the overall number of malfunctions, stability issues, and bugs, it is currently difficult to feel the 'Horizon magic'. To put it simply, for an experience to be great and memorable, it must first be usable and well-designed,» said Vishal Shah, Meta’s Vice President of Metaverse.
Users in France and Spain, who were the first to get access to Horizon Worlds, also noticed the primitive graphics and a large number of bugs. The app, available with the Meta Oculus VR headset, was criticized for graphics that «look like a video game from the late 90s and early 2000s.»
Experts believe that the main culprit for the primitive graphics is the Oculus VR headset, which is limited in power and cannot render complex graphics (for example, like the PlayStation 5). Critics also drew attention to the lack of a lower body in Horizon Worlds avatars. In response to the criticism, Zuckerberg assured that despite the limited power of the headset, major graphical updates are being prepared.
