Trust Wallet developers confirm hacker attack on the wallet

In a statement dated April 22, 2023, the developers of the Trust Wallet cryptocurrency wallet reported that users of the software lost $ 170 thousand. The vulnerability affected wallets created in a browser extension between November 14 and 23, 2022. An anonymous security analyst reported the vulnerability back in November, telling about a bug on the rewards website (bounty program).

Trust Wallet representatives stated that they had postponed the release of this information to prevent potential attacks and to reduce the scale of the damage. It was noted that this vulnerability did not affect users of the Trust Wallet mobile application or those who imported their wallets into the browser extension. It also did not affect users who generated new addresses before November 14 or after November 23, 2022.

Trust Wallet representatives assured that they would compensate their users. The company also warned that the «vulnerable» addresses still contain about $ 88 thousand. The team urged users to immediately withdraw digital funds from the compromised storages.

After the incident, Trust Wallet said it had increased the number of security checks over the past few months.
