Romania introduces blockchain technologies in state document management
Romania’s Informatics Research Institute(ICI) has announced the transition of official government documents to the blockchain system, according to the approved program «Romanian National System of Issuers and Assets» (NSIDA).
According to the CII, the process of obtaining, storing and processing important official documents will be carried out on the basis of the Elrond blockchain network. Birth certificates, driver’s licenses, property and land papers will take the form of non-fungible digital assets.
Virtual certificates will be considered legal on a par with paper documents. Romanian citizens will be able to submit applications remotely.
In the future, the country plans to completely get rid of paper documents, which will lead to the closure of many offline institutions. Therefore, the NSIDA program will become a transitional stage for building a future decentralized network for processing the country’s main accounting resources. This national initiative, according to experts, is another proof of the success of the integration of the Web3 space into the outside world.
