Sam Bankman-Fried may be released from prison 4 years earlier
Former FTX crypto exchange CEO Сем Бенкман-Фрід" href="https://noworries.news/biography/sem-benkman-frid/" data-bio-id="3697">Sam Bankman-Fried may be released from prison four years earlier than his sentence. According to the official data of the US Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), the preliminary date of his release is scheduled for December 14, 2044, while the court previously sentenced him to 25 years in prison.
The reason for this difference is the possibility of reducing the sentence for good behavior. Under the current rules, prisoners can receive up to 54 days of reduced sentence for each year if they participate in appropriate programs and do not violate discipline. In addition, Benkman-Fried was likely to receive credit for two months spent in pre-trial detention before the sentencing.
Currently, the FTX founder is in the Terminal Island FCI correctional facility, where he was recently transferred from a more dangerous California state prison. This decision, according to media reports, was made due to a decrease in the risk level posed by Bankman-Fried and his behavior in prison.
As a reminder, Sam Bankman-Fried was found guilty of large-scale financial fraud and fraud related to the FTX exchange collapse in 2022. The court announced the verdict in March 2024, finding him guilty on several counts, including embezzlement of client funds.
Caroline Ellison, the former head of Alameda Research, who was also involved in the case, has already received a two-year prison sentence. However, under favorable conditions, she could be released as early as May 2026, which is also due to the policy of early release for good behavior.
