Sam Bankman-Fried to participate in crypto forum despite fraud charges
It has become known that the founder and former CEO of the bankrupt FTX cryptocurrency exchange, Sam Bankman-Fried, is planning to speak at the New York City conference on November 30. The news has angered many cryptocurrency market players. Members of the crypto community began to wonder why the founder of FTX is not only still at large but also participating in various public events.
The New York Times journalist Andrew Sorkin said that the invitation to the conference was extended to Benkman-Fried long before FTX announced its bankruptcy. Many cryptocurrency enthusiasts, experts, and law enforcement officials are wondering why the founder of the fraudulent exchange continues to enjoy life.
«Frankly, I think that if Bankman-Fried is not charged with fraud, money laundering… if he is not arrested, but simply allowed to tell his stories, it will show that something strange is happening to our justice system,» said US Attorney John Deaton.
The US and Bahamian authorities are considering extraditing Sam Bankman-Fried to the United States. The criminal article under which Fried may be charged includes fraud with the use of electronic communications. The former FTX CEO risks going to jail for 20 years. As a reminder, the number of customers to whom the FTX cryptocurrency exchange owes money may be more than a million, not 100,000 as previously reported. The exchange owes more than $ 3.1 billion to its 50 largest creditors.
