Solana’s owners were hacked through the Chrome browser

4:50 pm, August 20, 2024

The team of the Jupiter platform, which is an aggregator of decentralized exchanges based on the Solana blockchain BTC $65,551.74 Bitcoin -0.38% Market capitalization $1.3 trillion VOL. 24 hours $0.56 billion , has discovered a malicious extension for the Google Chrome browser called Bull Checker. It was used by hackers to steal the digital assets of users associated with Anatoliy Yakovenko’s network.

According to Jupiter experts, the Bull Checker malware was presented as a tool for viewing the assets of meme-coin owners, but in fact, the extension was intended to carry out malicious actions. It requested permission to read and write data, and could also make changes to user transactions, transferring their tokens to the attackers' addresses.

Despite the fact that the extension successfully bypassed the checks of well-known antivirus programs, the Jupiter team urged all users to immediately remove Bull Checker to prevent possible losses. At the same time, Jupiter assured that the investigation did not reveal any vulnerabilities in any of the decentralized applications on the Solana network.

Earlier, we reported that Solana is a leader among blockchains that do not support the Ethereum Virtual Machine (non-EVM) in terms of the amount of blocked funds (TVL). This figure amounts to $ 10.8 billion, which is 56% of the total amount of $ 19.4 billion. This emphasizes Solana’s dominant position in this sector, especially against the backdrop of the TON blockchain, which ranks second with $ 1.09 billion or 5.6%.
