SpaceX received payments in Dogecoin for canceling the DOGE-1 space mission

Elon Musk’s SpaceX has accepted the Dogecoin (DOGE) cryptocurrency as payment for the rescheduling of the long-awaited DOGE-1 mission to the moon.

Geometric Energy Corporation (GEC) CEO Samuel Reed announced the transaction, saying that GEC paid SpaceX in DOGE to rebook the DOGE-1 mission after its original schedule was delayed. The mission, which was originally scheduled to launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with a payload in 2022, was delayed because the satellite was not ready in time for the launch of Intuitive Machines IM-1.

Reed explained that the new deal includes a rebooking fee in Dogecoin. DOGE-1 will be launched depending on when the satellite is delivered to Maverick Space in the US from Exobotics UK. Despite the delay, Reed remains optimistic about the DOGE-1 mission. «It doesn’t mean that DOGE-1 won’t be launched or that the mission won’t happen. DOGE-1 tried to do it on IM-1 and almost did,» Reed explained.

Earlier, a cryptocurrency wallet with the DOGE memo token was sent to the moon as part of the Peregrine space mission with a payload. However, the lunar module crashed.
