Cryptocurrency expert finds names of fraudsters behind NFT phishing scam
Cryptographer ZachXBT has identified the attackers involved in the NFT phishing scam, who managed to earn about 2.5 million.
As it became known, the attackers offered to animate NFT tokens, including Bored Apes, Azuki, Sudoswap, and Doodles, and then disappeared after receiving payment from users. According to a study conducted by ZachXBT, the attackers' names are Mathis and Camille, and they live in Paris. The blockchain detective managed to analyze the fraudsters' methodology and the network through which they operated. ZachXBT also investigated their Twitter accounts, from which all posts were deleted, but the cryptographer managed to «unearth» them.
At the time of writing, Mathis and Camille remain at large, but thanks to the efforts of ZachXBT and concerned users, the search for the attackers is beginning to narrow. «Hopefully, we will soon hear about a lawsuit against Mathis and Camilla for the financial damage they have caused to many people,» ZachXBT wrote.
Of course, the thefts of the theoretical Mathis and Camilla seem like a drop in the bucket compared to the damage caused to the cryptocurrency community by hackers from North Korea. However, evil of any size must be punished sooner or later. As for the North Korean hackers from the Lazarus Group, they are suspected of stealing $ 100 million from the Harmony blockchain and cyberattacking the Ronin sidechain, which cost Axie Infinity Sky game developer Mavis Inc and players about $ 625 million in total losses.
