The code name of Twitter’s «main competitor» from Meta has been revealed

5:35 pm, June 9, 2023

Meta Corporation is preparing to create a Twitter killer codenamed Project 92. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Meta hopes to launch the new platform «as soon as possible». The company is currently negotiating cooperation with well-known influencers such as American presenter, philanthropist, and writer Oprah Winfrey, as well as the Dalai Lama, to get them to agree to use the app. The launch of Meta’s Twitter analog is expected to generate increased interest and renewed discourse in the social media industry.

In a conversation with The Verge, Meta’s Chief Product Officer Chris Cox said that the priorities in developing the app were «security, ease of use, and reliability.» The future application will use the same account system as other social networks from Meta, and all user data will be synchronized.

«We've heard from developers and public figures that they are interested in the platform’s reliable operation,» Cox emphasized.

The future social network will be integrated with the decentralized social media protocol ActivityPub. This will make it possible to transfer accounts and subscribers to other applications that support ActivityPub, including Mastodon.

Nevertheless, developing your own Meta metaverse is harder than competing with Elon Musk for the audience on social media. Thus, journalists of The Verge tested the Quest Pro 2 virtual helmet and defeated the virtual world from Meta. In particular, the gadget did not track eye position correctly, its charge lasts only two hours, and the technical part of the Meta universe still needs to be improved. Meta employees also expressed dissatisfaction, writing angry comments about the management’s obsession with virtual worlds.

But despite the widespread criticism, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that he still does not see any convincing argument to abandon the development of the metaverse. However, the company has announced that it wants to revive interest in virtual reality, positioning the technology not as a way of entertainment but as a tool for employee training.
