Trial of one of the largest cryptocurrency fraudsters to be held in September
The U.S. Department of Justice has ruled that the trial of the former co-owner of the BTC-e exchange will take place on September 27. Until then, he will remain in the Santa Rita prison in California.
«The next hearing is scheduled for September 27, 9:30 am. Vinnick will remain in custody until the trial,» said Judge Sally Kim of the U.S. District Court in California. The former crypto exchange CEO is expected to be defended by public defender David Rizk. It is worth noting that the court is only considering procedural issues in Vinnik’s case, and the hearings will begin later.
As a reminder, the US authorities suspect Vinnik of managing the BTC-e crypto exchange, through which about $ 9 billion was laundered. If found guilty, the suspect faces 50 years in prison. Vinnik himself, who was denied bail by a US court, continues to deny the charges against him. The fraudster was extradited to the United States from Greece.
