Tarantino to prove his rights to develop and issue NFT tokens in court
The filmmaker is going to court to prove to Miramax that he has the rights to the script, which means he can launch NFT tokens in the form of episodes from the Pulp Fiction movie.
Quentin Tarantino is preparing to issue tokens in the form of a series of scenes, a handwritten script, and exclusive audio comments by the director himself, which were not included in the movie. However, Miramax has filed a lawsuit against Tarantino, accusing him of copyright infringement for the movie, the profits from which belong to the film company.
Miramax insists that its rights extend even to technologies that had not yet been created in 1996, when the agreement with Tarantino was concluded. The film company refers to the wording in the contract that it has all rights that were in effect at that time or could appear in the future, as well as in all media known at that time or that will appear later.
However, Quentin Tarantino’s defense is not willing to give up. Lawyer Brian Friedman argues that his client has the right to sell NFTs with fragments of the work, as he has the copyright to the film’s script. Tarantino’s agreement with Miramax stipulates that he has the right to produce printed materials related to the film. This includes the publication of scripts, books and comics, including in audio and electronic formats, as well as other interactive publications.
The court’s decision may set a trend for all subsequent similar decisions.
