Telegram will launch its own blockchain platform for cryptocurrency transactions in the near future
The Telegram messenger team has announced the final stage of work on the launch of a blockchain platform for the sale of username identifiers based on the Telegram Open Network (TON) blockchain. The developers hope to repeat the success of the TON wallet address auction.
Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced the launch of TON back in late August. «If TON managed to achieve such results, imagine how successful Telegram with its 700 million users could be if we auctioned off reserved usernames, groups, and links to channels,» Durov said at the time.
In the Telegram Open Network, the owners of the names will be able to sell them using smart contracts. Over time, other Telegram content, including channels, stickers, or emoticons, will also be able to become part of the marketplace.
Recently, we told you that Telegram has launched a service for buying and selling cryptocurrencies. The developers of the Telegram bot @WalletBot announced the addition of the ability to buy/sell cryptocurrency on the platform. The commission for the sale of digital assets is 0.9%, and there is no commission for the purchase. Currently, only 2 cryptocurrencies are available for purchase: Toncoin (TON) and Bitcoin, but the developers promise to add other digital assets in the near future. To buy cryptocurrency, users can use hryvnia, dollars, euros, tenge, and the Belarusian ruble.
«Staying in Telegram, you can buy cryptocurrency, send it to friends under a short nickname without long wallet addresses, access the Internet, pay for a subscription to your favorite Telegram channel and many other services,» said a representative of @WalletBot at the time.
