Tesla announced the number of bitcoins on its accounts
Tesla, the world’s most famous electric car manufacturer, reported in its third quarter 2022 report that the company’s balance sheet contains $ 218 million worth of cryptocurrency. All digital assets are concentrated in bitcoins — approximately 11 366 BTC.
Back in July, Tesla sold 75% of its bitcoins due to declining profits and production problems during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the company’s owner Elon Musk later explained, the sale of cryptocurrency was driven by the need to increase liquidity during the period of anti-covid restrictions in China. However, not everyone understood the reasons for the sale of BTC — for example, former MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor criticized Musk for selling the flagship crypto. Saylor has repeatedly emphasized the prospects of digital assets and the illogic of selling BTC when its rate was falling. He also assumed that in the next four years, the flagship cryptocurrency would exceed the record high of $ 69,000 reached in November 2021.
As a reminder, Tesla is not only engaged in electric cars, but also creates collectibles. One of them is a cyber whistle that resembles the Cybertruck electric pickup truck. The exclusive trinket could be purchased only for the Dogecoin cryptocurrency, and the cost of the whistle was 1000 DOGE (approximately $ 60).
And on the last day of September, Tesla and Elon Musk presented the company’s new brainchild, the humanoid robot Tesla Optimus. The estimated cost of one copy is $ 20,000. It should be added that the concept of a general-purpose humanoid robot was first introduced more than a year ago to replace most of the routine human labor. Musk emphasized that his robots will not take away jobs from people and will not seek to destroy humanity.
