His approach was to create a fake account through which bitcoins were sold. This provoked a sharp drop in the value of the coin. Thus, the main digital asset was changing hands at a discounted price.
The hacker purchased the assets at a reduced cost and then laundered them on the BTC-e platform. At the time, many users criticized Mt. Gox for their negligent attitude to the security system. The company promised to fix the vulnerabilities and cover the losses of its customers.
