The United States has learned to block the bitcoin cryptocurrency in case of its use by criminals

11:34 am, November 24, 2023

A bitcoin developer known as 0xB10C said that the United States has learned how to block the flagship crypto asset when it is used by cyber fraudsters. F2Pool became the first mining pool to verify transactions in accordance with the sanctions of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

As you know, one of the main values of the CTS is the absence of censorship and the inability to control transfers by government organizations. However, the 0xB10C information indicates that crypto transactions are censored.

According to the mempool. space ranking, F2Pool is the third largest BTC mining pool, responsible for 13.7% of all blocks mined in the last 12 months. In fact, one in seven BTC blocks can be mined under censorship if F2Pool starts actively filtering out sanctioned transactions.

The latest data shared by 0xB10C suggests that F2Pool may have intentionally censored four of the six missing OFAC-sanctioned transactions. According to 0xB10C, blocks 810 727, 811 791, 811 920, and 813 357 mined by F2Pool intentionally filtered OFAC-sanctioned transactions. This was despite the competitive fees associated with all other added transactions.

F2Pool co-founder Chun Wang posted a message on the X platform that his bitcoin mining pool would disable a «transaction filtering patch.» According to Wang, the patch will be disabled until the community reaches a consensus on the issue.
