Tinder abandoned the idea of developing a virtual universe

The parent company of Match Group, which owns Tinder, has announced the cancellation of all plans to develop its own metaverse.

As it became known, Match Group developers have already created a new project for the development of dating in virtual reality. However, due to the «instability of digital worlds,» the company has now abandoned the launch of the Tinder metaverse.

«Dating in the metaverse is important for attracting a younger generation of users, and we are ready to move in this area. However, given the uncertainty about the final nuances of the metaverse and what will work and what won’t, I have instructed the team to develop our Web3 features, but not to invest large sums in creating our own virtual reality,» explained Match Group CEO Kim Bernard in a letter to the company’s shareholders.

It is worth noting that cryptocurrency fraudsters have managed to steal more than $ 200 million thanks to dating apps and websites. According to a study conducted by Bankless Times, it became known that dating sites are literally «flooded» with fraudsters who, under the guise of romantic interest, «help» their victims say goodbye to their cryptocurrency savings. The fraudsters act according to a well-coordinated scheme: they get to know the victim, gain their trust, sometimes communicating with the potential victim for up to six months, after which they start talking about investing in cryptocurrencies and direct the interlocutor to their own fake cryptocurrency exchange.

Crypto scammers work in a similar way on LinkedIn, posing as professional investors. They convince the victim to invest in a phishing site and then withdraw all the money from the user’s wallet.
