The token whose developers planned to take over the Earth with their cryptocurrency has fallen by 40%

2:40 pm, August 26, 2023

The price of Sam Altman’s Worldcoin WLD token has fallen by 5.6% over the past day and lost 43.8% in the 30 days since its launch. According to CoinGecko, at the time of writing, WLD is trading at $ 1.26.

A month earlier, when the largest crypto exchanges, including Binance, OKX, Bybit, Huobi, and others, opened WLD trading, the token’s price averaged $ 2.21.

«The recent decline in the value of Worldcoin is a worrying trend, especially when compared to the current signs of recovery of other tokens such as Ripple’s XRP,» said Jeff May, COO of the BTSE crypto platform.

Despite the fact that the WLD token was launched quite recently, Worldcoin has faced regulatory obstacles due to concerns about data privacy, May added.

In late July, the French regulator questioned the legality of biometrics collection by the Worldcoin cryptocurrency project. The project collected data in the country, so the local Data Privacy Protection Service initiated an investigation.

Earlier, we reported that a third of a million Kenyans came for an eye scan for free Worldcoin cryptocurrency. Fearing manipulation of personal data, the government suspended the tech startup’s operations. In addition to Kenyan government officials, ChatGPT developer Sam Altman’s idea is criticized by many crypto enthusiasts, traders, and investors.

Worldcoin scans people’s eyeballs using the Orb device, a metal ball that records information about the iris in the form of a cryptographic code. All those who have been scanned will participate in periodic distributions of WLD tokens, and the project authors position this as a form of universal basic income.

«We are on a mission to create the largest financial and identification community we can said Ricardo Maceira, the project’s top manager in Europe. According to Maceira, Worldcoin will continue to roll out in Europe, Latin America, Africa, and «all parts of the world where [компанію] is accepted.» However, most people interviewed by Reuters on the project’s websites in the UK, India, and Japan said they were registering for the 25 WLD tokens alone.
