south Korean scientist’s «toilet» cryptocurrency project banned by authorities

11:45 am, August 20, 2022

Anyone can offend a genius — the South Korean government has suspended a research program to create BeeVi toilets, which students at Ulsan University received digital currency for using.

Professor Cho Jae-won, who oversaw the initiative, shared his thoughts on this: «Theinvestors probably decided that they had provided enough support for the project and it should have become independent. However, the philosophy of this currency (Ggool) is still significantly different from other coins available on the cryptocurrency market.»

BeeVi toilets were located on the campuses of the National Institute of Science and Technology in Ulsan. In a special laboratory, the waste products were processed into biogas to generate electricity. Yesterday, we told you that students received 10 Ggool per day for using the toilet. The cryptocurrency was accepted in shops on campus, but now this will not be possible.

Professor Cho still maintains that Korean metropolitan areas can benefit from this technology by using the recycled gas for heat or cooking. However, he acknowledged that this would require significant investment in infrastructure and the involvement of specialists who can realize the scale of the idea.
