In the UK, the number of cryptocurrency crimes increased by 1243% in 5 years
According to analysts, the number of cryptocurrency crimes in the UK has increased by 1243% since 2016, with a total of 34,305 cases.
According to an in-depth study of cryptocurrency crimes conducted by Crypto Head analysts, in just one year, victims of cryptocurrency crimes have «given» more than 204 million pounds ($ 241 million) to fraudsters. Thus, in 2016, 704 cases of crypto fraud were recorded, in 2017 — 1482, in 2018 — 6739, in 2019 — 7121, in 2020 — 8801, and 9458 in 2021.
According to analysts, almost 12% of the 9458 victims in 2021 were aged 18 to 25, making this age range the most «vulnerable.» It is also interesting that in 2021, almost 60% of cryptocurrency crime victims were men.
As a reminder, according to data from ImmuneFi experts, the number of attacks on digital assets worldwide has doubled compared to the beginning of 2022, but the total amount of losses has decreased. Thus, in April, May, and June, hackers attacked cryptocurrency platforms 50 times around the world. As a result, they managed to steal more than $ 670 million. Interestingly, in the first three months of 2022, hackers stole $ 1.2 billion in just 25 attacks.
