An underground cryptocurrency mining farm was discovered in Kharkiv

7:30 pm, July 19, 2022

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has reported the elimination of an underground crypto farm that was stealing electricity in the frontline areas of eastern Ukraine.

According to the SBU’s official website, law enforcement officers discovered a mining farm in a warehouse near Kharkiv, where miners were «consuming» hundreds of thousands of hryvnias worth of electricity every month. The systematic load on the grid could have led to large-scale power outages in residential buildings and important facilities in the frontline zone.

According to information received from law enforcement, during the searches, investigators found mining equipment, which became one of the key pieces of evidence of criminal activity. The pre-trial investigation is currently underway.

As a reminder, today it also became known about the detention of four fraudsters in Kyiv who urged users to invest in a fake mining farm and disappeared after receiving the money. Earlier, law enforcement agencies detained cryptocurrency fraudsters from Ukraine who helped users from Russia and residents of the so-called L/DNR convert fiat currency into cryptocurrency without paying taxes.
