The developers have integrated new features to protect against hackers into the MetaMask cryptocurrency wallet

12:20 pm, July 29, 2022

The developers of the MetaMask cryptocurrency wallet have released an update — from now on, users will receive additional tips and warnings to protect them from hackers.

As it became known, the MetaMask 10.18.0 update has changed the «setApprovalForAll» permission method — this feature provides direct access to the user’s wallet and all tokens on the account. With the help of special prompts, the program will notify that the smart contract requires a wide range of permissions, one of which is access to all funds on the account (this is what hackers use to quickly drain tokens from the wallet).

Earlier, security researchers found a critical vulnerability in outdated versions of the MetaMask cryptocurrency wallet — version 10.11.3 had a serious vulnerability in the wallet owner’s passphrase. At the time, MetaMask advised users to update their wallets and be careful with third-party links.

In June, security experts from Confiant warned the crypto community about fake programs that imitate MetaMask and Coinbase Wallet to steal passphrases and intercept transactions.
