Hacker sells 1 billion user data for 10 BTC in China
Chinese residents suffered from one of the largest data breaches in history. In the darknet, a hacker sold 1 billion users' personal information for 10 BTC (about $ 203,562).
The hacker ChinaDan managed to sell 23 terabytes of confidential data on the Breached. to forum. According to local media, the information was stolen from the Shanghai National Police (SHGA) database. However, it is currently impossible to confirm that ChinaDan stole the data and is the «original source».
Earlier, the CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange Binance Changpeng Zhao announced on his official Twitter page that the personal data of users of «one Asian country» had been stolen. According to Zhao, the large-scale data theft was made possible by a bug in the Elastic Search search engine, which was installed by a government agency.
Chinese residents are now shocked by the hackers' actions and are concerned about the safety of other confidential information contained on the websites of the country’s government agencies. However, this case of information theft is not the only one in the crypto world. For example, the OpenSea trading platform for the sale of non-fungible tokens recently announced the theft of users' personal data — all through the platform’s email partner Customer.io.
An employee of the service illegally used his own access to users' email addresses to create and send automated emails. He was downloading all email addresses to his database and transferring them to a third party. It is not known what is worse — a stolen database from hackers or confidential information in the hands of the government. Last week, the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase was accused of selling personal data to the US government.
