South Korea investigates suicide of a whole family due to cryptocurrency transactions
South Korean police have launched an investigation into the suicide of an entire family — parents and a 10-year-old child — after their car with the bodies was found off the coast of Wando Island, local media report.
The victims told their relatives that they were going on vacation and then disappeared. Journalists note that before the disappearance, the family had overdue payments on loans that the family took out to speculate on the cryptocurrency market. It is noted that one of the largest assets was the LUNA cryptocurrency, the collapse of which became a trigger for the onset of the «crypto winter» — suicides of LUNA owners are not uncommon, even Ukrainians have suffered.
Police examining the couple’s recent internet searches found evidence of numerous searches related to «crypto assets» and «sleeping pills.» Shortly before the disappearance, doctors prescribed a two-week supply of sleeping pills for the mother in the family.
