In Prague, cryptocurrency can be used to pay for a tram ticket

8:58 pm, June 26, 2022

One of the oldest tram routes in the Czech Republic is now used as a tourist attraction (the famous line 42). Visitors can ride the tram and see the most popular sights of the country’s capital, such as Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, and Powder Tower. And it is on this tram line that tourists will have the opportunity to pay for their trip with digital assets.

The local company Tram Line has teamed up with Global Payments to allow travelers to pay for their trips with cryptocurrency. Petr Soukup, CIO at Prague City Tourism, said of the collaboration: «There is no reason why people shouldn’t use cryptocurrencies for regular payments. Now everyone can pay for a ticket with bitcoins or, for example, with Ethereum.»

The ticket for this tourist line is valid for 24 hours, so passengers can use it continuously throughout the day. Usually, the tram runs only on weekends, but from June 23, it will run from Thursday to Sunday to meet the increased tourist demand.
