The US wants to recognize cryptocurrency as an inalienable human right by law
Representatives of the Republican Party in Texas have proposed amendments to the Bill of Rights — government officials want to legally recognize cryptocurrency ownership as an inalienable right of Texas residents.
According to the statement of the Republican Party, the text of the Texas Constitution should be supplemented with several provisions on digital assets. This way, Texas wants to protect the region, which is one of the leaders in cryptocurrency mining, from a possible ban on digital assets by the federal government. «To add protection for the inalienable right of Texans to store, exchange, and accumulate wealth in mediums of exchange (including digital currency, gold and silver coins, cash, bullion, and securities) to the Texas Bill of Rights,» the Texas Republicans said in a statement.
However, it is obvious that not all residents of the state support the use of cryptocurrency and its mining. In June, residents of Corsicana opposed the construction of the world’s largest bitcoin mining facility by Riot Blockchain. One of the things that worries the group of protesters the most is the amount of water that the company uses to cool its equipment at a time when the county often faces droughts. In addition, their concerns include the potential increase in water and electricity bills.
