The United States passed a law on the development and production of its own mining chips in order not to depend on China
The U.S. Senate has passed the Chips and Science Act (CHIP-plus) to allow Americans to design and manufacture semiconductors on their own, all to completely stop the supply of chips from China and create competition in the market.
According to information about the new law, $ 52 billion will be allocated from the US federal budget to finance American semiconductor companies. US President Joe Biden called the Senate’s decision historic. According to him, the bill will reduce the US dependence on foreign suppliers, lower prices for electronics and create thousands of new jobs.
As a reminder, it has recently become known that the Chinese manufacturer of bitcoin mining chips Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) supplies its equipment to American miners despite the tough sanctions imposed by the US government. As it has become known, SMIC supplies bitcoin mining chips made using 7-nanometer technology. However, the US government blacklisted SMIC back in 2020 due to suspicions of the Chinese manufacturer’s ties to China’s military and possible information leaks.
