Cryptocurrency will be mined using wind in Texas
Cipher Mining announced on Twitter that it has completed the deployment of bitcoin miners in a new data center in Texas. It will have a capacity of 40 MW and will be powered by a wind farm. The hashrate of the equipment installed at Alborz is 1.3 EH/s. This will allow mining up to 5.7 BTC per day.
Cipher Mining expects the arrival of bitcoin miners for three more data centers in Texas: Bear and Chief with a total capacity of 20 MW, as well as a 205 MW facility in Odesa. By the beginning of 2023, the company plans to reach a hashrate of 6.9 EH/s with a fleet of facilities with an average capacity of 32.1 J/TH. According to the signed contracts, Cipher’s facilities are provided with electricity at a tariff of approximately $ 0.0273 per kWh.
«We have completed the Alborz data center, mining rigs are on the way for the initial stages of Bear and Chief, and we plan to deploy our 205 MW facility in Odesa this year. Despite the challenging cryptocurrency market conditions, the attractive economics of the bitcoin mining division give us a unique opportunity to successfully move forward,» said Cipher Mining CEO Tyler Page.
For the second quarter, the company recorded a net loss of $ 19 million ($ 27 million for the first half of the year). At the same time, Cipher Mining said it has sufficient funds to complete the construction of all four data centers.
