Ukrainian cyber police and FBI dismantle illegal cryptocurrency exchange network

Specialists of the Ukrainian cyber police and representatives of the FBI have exposed and eliminated a network of services for the exchange of cryptocurrencies obtained by criminal means. This became known from the official website of the National Police.

The web resources offered users anonymous cryptocurrency exchange. Such services were provided to facilitate legalization and money laundering. The criminals used the exchanges to transfer assets obtained as a result of malware attacks (ransomware) and online fraud. The exchange services were advertised on closed hacker forums.

«As a result of the operation, law enforcement officers blocked the network infrastructure, which was located on servers in the United States, Europe and Ukraine. The domain names were seized,» law enforcement officials said.

Police officers are currently identifying those involved in the criminal activity. Visitors to the following websites will now see a confiscation banner:

In late March, Ukrainian cyber police exposed an international criminal group whose members robbed users of UAH 160 million through phishing sites. The fraudsters created more than 100 phishing websites targeting European users.

The websites offered customers various goods at below-market prices. The bank card details that customers entered on phishing sites to pay for their orders were automatically disclosed to the criminals. The criminals then misappropriated money from their accounts.
