Ukraine accused of involvement in FTX exchange that collapsed last week

5:42 pm, November 15, 2022

Journalists of the American publication Gateway Pundit, which has repeatedly published fake information, have accused Ukraine of involvement in the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX. Representatives of Gateway Pundit stated that tens of billions of dollars in cryptocurrency coming to Ukraine were allegedly laundered through FTX for representatives of the US Democratic Party.

It should be noted that the publication in its «investigation» referred to information from Twitter and its sources, but no confirmation of the truthfulness of the accusations was published. «This information was shared on Twitter, and we can confirm from our sources that it is accurate,» Gateway Pundit journalists wrote.

Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for IT Development Oleksandr Borniakov commented on this situation, emphasizing that the Ukrainian cryptocurrency fund Aid For Ukraine had previously cooperated with the FTX exchange. The platform helped Aid For Ukraine convert cryptocurrency donations into fiat currency, and the money was transferred to the National Bank of Ukraine. That was the end of the cooperation. «The Ukrainian government has never invested in the FTX exchange. The narrative that Ukraine allegedly invested in FTX, which donated money to the Democrats, is outright nonsense,» Borniakov emphasized.

The bankruptcy of the recently successful FTX cryptocurrency exchange has affected the entire crypto market, and the chances of getting compensation for lost funds from the exchange’s clients are slim. This became clear from FTX’s investment documents, which were accessed by the Financial Times — Сем Бенкман-Фрід" href="https://noworries.media/biography/sem-benkman-frid/" data-bio-id="3697">Sam Bankman-Fried 's exchange had only $ 900 million in liquid assets against $ 9 billion in liabilities.

As for the Aid For Ukraine crypto fund, as of September 30, the platform’s representatives managed to raise 1/3 of the $ 178 million in digital assets. Among the most popular cryptocurrencies for making donations are ethereum, bitcoin, and USDT and BUSD stablecoins. Most of the funds (52%) went to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and 48% went to humanitarian aid to Ukrainians affected by the war.
