Iranian government offers cryptocurrency for killing US government officials

3:09 pm, August 12, 2022

According to the FBI, the Iranian government ordered the assassination of Donald Trump’s former National Security Advisor John Bolton and former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo — the killer was promised $ 300,000 in cryptocurrency and $ 1 million in fiat currency.

As it has become known, the murder of John Bolton and Mike Pompeo was supposed to be revenge for the death of the former leader of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. In January 2020, Qasem Soleimani was killed by US law enforcement officials.

However, the contract killing did not take place, and the killer did not receive the promised funds in digital assets. As a reminder, cryptocurrencies are increasingly being used to pay for contract killings. For example, the US Department of Justice sentenced a woman to 10 years in prison for a failed assassination attempt on her husband. The attacker admitted that she paid the potential killer in cryptocurrency. The woman made a payment in bitcoins totaling about $ 10,000.
