3:23 pm, September 17, 2022

The US Department of Justice has announced the creation of a National Cryptocurrency Law Enforcement Team. The agency will also facilitate the investigation of digital finance crimes.

«As digital assets play an important role in our global financial system, we must work in tandem with departments and government agencies. This way,we can prevent the criminal use of cryptocurrencies and undermine national security,» said Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The responsibilities of the new unit will include

  • supervising compliance with cryptocurrency legislation,
  • assistance to the judiciary in investigating digital finance crimes,
  • investigative actions and improvement of judicial procedures.

The DOJ said that the National Group will focus its efforts on investigating crimes in the field of illegal use of digital assets, the use of cryptocurrency as a means of payment to finance criminal activity, as well as the use of crypto assets to conceal illegal activities and intentionally undermine the cryptocurrency market.

Earlier, we reported that the US government and President Joe Biden’s administration are working on the launch of the digital dollar, the country’s national cryptocurrency. The presidential administration notes that the United States wants to prepare for the issue of CBDC if the Treasury decides that the initiative is in the country’s interests. Biden’s representatives emphasized that the final decision will be made by the Federal Reserve. A few days ago, the White House presented the first-ever concept of cryptocurrency regulation in the United States
