US government accused of using Apple and Google to steal cryptocurrencies from citizens

9:24 am, May 25, 2023

Former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan has accused the US government of using Apple and Google to steal cryptocurrencies from citizens. According to Srinivasan, world governments may go bankrupt in ten years and therefore will try to confiscate bitcoins to finance their operations. The United States will be the first to do so.

The former Coinbase COO suggested that the US government will not be able to take over more than 50% of the BTC network’s hashrate to overwrite previous transactions and make double write-offs. However, Balaji is confident that the US government can get big companies like Apple and Google to cooperate.

«The federal government could try to force Apple and Google (and other tech companies) to look for private keys on the servers, devices, and browsers they control. And transfer any stolen funds to the money-hungry federal government. This is not cyber terrorism, this is cyber warfare. It won’t be a random hacker who manages to steal a file. The CEO of the company will order the hacking of his clients ,» Srinivasan said.

As a reminder, it has been reported that one of the most popular cryptocurrency wallet manufacturers may be leaking customer data to the US authorities. Ledger CEO Pascal Gauthier admitted that the authorities could gain access to the private keys of users of hardware crypto wallets that will be connected to the Ledger Recover service.
