A bug has been found in Steam that can kill a user’s profile
The host of The Spiffing Brit channel told about an unusual way to kill your own Steam account. As it turned out, it is enough to rename it to «antidisestablishmentarianism» («anti-destabilizationism»).
After this action, the account immediately becomes grayed out. Its owner loses access to inventory, groups, friends, and profiles. They can no longer be invited to join the game, as their account is not visible in the search.
Moreover, the user can’t even change his name — his own profile is not open to him either. However, the games in the library are still available.
As the blogger found out, the ban does not take place on the Steam page, but on the Akamai service, which hosts game profiles of Steam, Ubisoft, Riot, Roblox, and The Pokemon Company. For some reason, the word «antidisestablishmentarianism» was banned on Akamai’s servers, which led to a failure on Steam.
In late April, more than 2,500 users received Steam restrictions due to one negative review of the game Warlander. When they tried to contact Steam about the issue, the affected users received an automatic response and were unable to lift or reduce the voting ban.
