Unity believes that websites will move to virtual reality by 2030
John Riccitello, CEO of Unity, a video game development platform, expressed his opinion that in the next few years, most websites will move to the metaverse.
During his speech at the AWE (Augmented World Expo) conference dedicated to augmented reality, Unity CEO said that 2D websites will become part of metaverse and will be interconnected. In his opinion, only three web trends will survive:
- Sites that will be fully integrated into the metaverse
- Real places where users will get enhanced capabilities with the help of augmented reality technologies
- Widget sites that will become a small addition to the real world — their functions will be purely utilitarian
Thus, the web projects we are used to will have to migrate to metaverse. Riccitello emphasized that in order to use all 3 types of websites, it will be necessary to have special equipment adapted to smartphones and PCs. Therefore, the next few years will be spent on providing users with the necessary equipment.
Currently, virtual reality is being used in various fields, for example, South Korean students choose the metaverse instead of studying in conventional classrooms. When preparing for exams, young people unite with each other in metaverse and complete daily tasks. Virtual learning helps them track their progress and support their classmates. And luxury brands are actively luring their fans into virtual worlds.
