Vitalik Buterin: Ethereum will become cryptographically secure in the next century
Бутерін" href="https:>Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum ETH $3,320.62 Bridged Ether (StarkGate) 6.23% Market capitalization $75.32 million VOL. 24 hours $1.76 billion , called on the crypto community to ensure the network’s long-term sustainability and make it cryptographically secure for at least the next hundred years. He emphasized that the introduction of protection against quantum computing should not be postponed for the sake of temporary efficiency gains, as these technologies pose a potential threat to modern encryption algorithms.
Buterin explained that although users decide when to update their software, changes at the protocol level should be made now. This, he said, is necessary for Ethereum to withstand the development of quantum computers and remain reliable even in the future.
He also proposed the concept of a walkaway test: the network should be so stable and secure that it can be left unchanged and continue to work correctly even after decades. Achieving this level of protection, according to Buterin, should be one of the key goals of developers.
His position comes amid broader discussions in the crypto community about the risks that quantum computing can pose to modern blockchains. Experts are discussing how to prepare systems for technological changes that could challenge current security standards.
Buterin has repeatedly emphasized that decentralization and network resilience are more important than temporary performance or convenience improvements, as they determine Ethereum’s ability to withstand external challenges even without active intervention from developers.
