Stolen NFTs from the most popular collections are worth more than $ 25 million
Analysts at Dune Analytics, a blockchain research service, have calculated the value of non-fungible tokens that have been identified on the OpenSea platform as stolen or suspicious, with the amount of losses exceeding $ 25 million.
According to the dashboard created by Dune Analytics, 130 Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs and 268 Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFTs have been marked as «suspicious» on OpenSea, as well as 153 Azuki NFTs frozen, 202 CloneX NFTs and 70 Moonbirds NFTs stolen.
Obviously, users cannot currently buy «suspicious» and stolen non-fungible tokens on the OpenSea platform, but according to one of the largest token holders from BAYC, they can be sold on other platforms, as it is almost impossible to regulate the process of «buying and selling» stolen NFTs outside of OpenSea.
Interestingly, in early June, OpenSea CEO Darin Finzer said that the NFT buying and selling platform would redouble its efforts to combat fraud and plagiarism. The OpenSea CEO stated that the usual prohibitions against fraud, intellectual property theft, and plagiarism are not enough. To prevent fraud attempts, OpenSea will automatically hide suspicious NFTs. The platform will also cooperate with copyright holders to create models for detecting stolen images.
