Vueling has integrated payment for airline tickets using cryptocurrency

Vueling’s passengers will be able to use cryptocurrency to buy airline tickets online starting in the second half of 2023.

The airline will be «the first low-cost airline in Europe to accept cryptocurrency as an alternative to conventional fiat money,» Vueling said in a statement.

The move is the result of a cooperation agreement between Vueling and Criptan, a Valencian startup specializing in cryptocurrencies. Previously, it was planned to use the BitPay service as a gateway.

Vueling, which is part of IAG, was also founded in Valencia, but its main hub is at Barcelona-El Prat airport.

Both companies state that «they are currently working on exploring the strategic opportunities of blockchain and NFT technology to offer innovative solutions to their customers and thus improve the user experience through digital tools.»

As a reminder, in the US, all customers of American Air and Air Canada can buy airline tickets for cryptocurrency. In Ukraine, Binance allows paying with cryptocurrency on the Tickets.ua website
