Worldcoin token grew by 140% in a week
The Worldcoin (WLD) token, a cryptocurrency project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has grown by more than 140% over the past week. The reason is that the number of its daily users has exceeded 1 million.
In a statement on February 17, Worldcoin announced that its crypto wallet, dubbed the «World App,» has more than 1 million users, which is «a significant increase from the 100,000 daily active users recorded last November.»
Worldcoin is a digital identity verification project that pays users in its own cryptocurrency in exchange for scanning their irises. It was launched in July 2023 by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Alex Blania. The goal of Worldcoin is to try to introduce a global universal basic income by issuing a small number of WLD tokens to everyone on the planet in exchange for verifying their identity.
The company has previously introduced three different levels of identification — everyday, standard, and high. These range from simply creating a profile in the app to more robust security measures that include iris scanning and facial recognition.
«We are on a mission to create the largest financial and identity community we can,» Ricardo Maceira, the project’s top manager in Europe, said earlier. According to Maceira, Worldcoin will continue to roll out in Europe, Latin America, Africa, and «all parts of the world where [компанію] is accepted.»
As of the time of writing, Worldcoin (WLD) is trading at $ 5.88 with a market capitalization of $ 954 million, a gain of more than 42.5% over the day. Traders made daily trading deals worth $ 827.8 million.
