YouTube starts testing multiviewing, which allows you to watch four programs at once

The developers of YouTube TV, a paid service from YouTube, have launched testing of a new multi-view feature that will allow watching up to four different programs simultaneously. According to The Verge, the multiview feature is intended for watching sports content.

The channels broadcasting NCAA basketball tournament games are participating in the early multi-view testing. In the future, other sporting events will be available for viewing, but for now, viewers don’t even have the opportunity to choose channels on their own: they are offered in the form of sets pre-compiled by YouTube.

«Over time, we will improve the multiviewer and add more features, including the ability to customize your own streams ,» said Herman Cheung, lead developer of YouTube TV.

Early testers will receive notifications from YouTube in the YouTube TV app and via email. You won’t be able to register for the test yourself, but the test will be gradually expanded until it is available to all users.

The multi-view feature will work across multiple platforms, including Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, and Chromecast. YouTube plans to monitor viewer feedback for several months as the NFL season approaches. The company expects that by the start of the NFL season, multi-view will be available for all YouTube TV users.

In late February, YouTube’s new CEO, Neil Mohan, announced his interest in Web3 technologies, including NFT and metaverse. «We believe that new technologies such as blockchain and NFTs can allow creators to build closer relationships with their fans.
