YouTube is interested in launching its own cryptocurrency tokens and metaverse

7:01 pm, February 20, 2023

Neil Mohan, the new CEO of YouTube, the world’s most popular video streaming platform, has announced his interest in Web3 technologies, including NFTs and metaverse.

Prior to his appointment as CEO of YouTube, Mohan was interested in progressive ideas for the development of the Internet. Last year, while working as a product development manager, he publicly stated that YouTube was considering options for integrating Web3-related technologies. Now, the top manager is convinced that NFT can make the YouTube experience «immersive» for users, advertisers, and company management alike.

«We believe that new technologies such as blockchain and NFT can allow creators to build closer relationships with their fans. There are many factors to consider to make sure that new technologies are right for our company. However, we are convinced that Web3 has incredible potential,» emphasized Mohan.

According to the new YouTube CEO, NFTs will offer users the opportunity to own unique content, such as photos and videos from their favorite influencers. In the long run, this will significantly increase the level of interaction between users and their idols, allowing the former to get closer to famous people and the latter to use new methods of content monetization.

Obviously, if YouTube plans to develop Web3 technologies, the company needs to develop effective mechanisms to protect users from fraudsters. After all, attackers often use the platform to promote their fraudulent projects and steal cryptocurrency. For example, a Canadian man lost $ 500,000 and his home after believing the words of criminals in a YouTube video.
