Hackers have stolen $ 1 billion worth of cryptocurrencies since 2021

The US Federal Trade Commission has published a report stating that more than 46,000 people have become victims of hackers over the past year and a half, losing a total of $ 1 billion.

In 70% of cases, people lost their bitcoins, which is the most popular currency among scammers and hackers. The median individual loss was $ 2600, but there were cases with larger amounts. There is also a correlation with age: the older a person is, the more money they have lost as a result of hacking.

Almost half of the scam thefts started with posts on social media. Often, the accounts of people trusted by the audience were hacked. Compared to 2018, the number of scam thefts has increased more than 60 times.
