Starting today, the work of crypto exchanges in Belgium is regulated by a state body

10:22 am, May 1, 2022

A new rule introduced by Belgium’s financial regulator, the Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA), now requires crypto exchanges and custodial wallets to register in the region as soon as possible.

According to information published by the FSMA, starting today, May 1, legal entities and individuals wishing to provide cryptocurrency exchange services or hold custodial wallets in Belgium will have to register — legally obliged to notify the FSMA of «carrying out their activities» within the next two months before July 1.

In order to maintain an active registration status with the FSMA, crypto service providers must fulfill a number of conditions, including being established as a company with a minimum capital of 50,000 euros.
