By infecting other people’s devices, hackers mine up to $ 20 million a month
According to a report by cybersecurity company SonicWall, hackers are mining up to $ 20 million a month — all thanks to infecting other people’s devices.
In the second half of 2022, profits from cryptojacking (a type of cybercrime involving the use of other people’s devices to mine cryptocurrency) increased by 30% compared to the same period in 2021. The researchers found that in 6 months, attackers managed to mine $ 66.7 million worth of cryptocurrency.
According to SonicWall, in January, hackers managed to set a record by mining $ 18.4 million in just one month. Interestingly, despite the decline in the value of digital assets, hackers' earnings from cryptojacking have increased.
As a reminder, CorpSoft24 experts recently informed users about the risks of using VPNs. As it became known, some VPN services may contain viruses that are used by attackers to mine digital currency. There are several signs that indicate that attackers have gained access to the device and are mining cryptocurrency: strong heating of the device, too fast discharge, and consumption of a large amount of traffic.
