Ethereum founder says Ukraine can become a hub for cryptocurrency technologies

7:43 pm, September 12, 2022

Vitalik Buterin, one of the founders of Ethereum, took part in Kyiv Tech Summit. It was the first time the developer came to Ukraine. During the panel discussion, Buterin and the other guests discussed the use of cryptocurrencies to finance Ukraine at war and the post-war role of blockchain technologies in the country’s recovery.

«It's incredible to be as brave as Ukraine, isn’t it? I wanted to see with my own eyes what projects and applications based on Ethereum are being created here, to meet the people behind them,» Buterin shared his impressions. The developer also expressed his belief that Ukrainians will continue to make technological progress by creating an active Web3 community that has the potential to turn Ukraine into a technology hub.

The Ethereum co-founder emphasized: «I think Ukraine can become the next Web3 hub. The Ethereum Foundation has centers in Boulder (Colorado, USA), Berlin, and Singapore, as crypto communities have grown organically there. A country can become a Web3 center if its citizens are actively interested in this technology and decide to make a significant contribution to its development. Ukraine has both the capabilities and the determination to do so.»

Vitalik Buterin, who was born in the Russian city of Kolomna, donated funds to help Ukraine fight Russian aggression. In doing so, he used the services of Tornado Cash, a cryptocurrency mixer that is under US sanctions.
