The founder of the closed FTX cryptocurrency exchange is trying to flee to Dubai
Former FTX CEO Сем Бенкман-Фрід" href="https://noworries.media/biography/sem-benkman-frid/" data-bio-id="3697">Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), co-founder Gary Wang, and CTO Nishad Singh are in the Bahamas and are «under the supervision» of local authorities.
A source familiar with the matter told Cointelegraph that the three former FTX executives, as well as Alameda Research CEO Caroline Allison, are looking for ways to escape to Dubai. Although the plan was made on the assumption that the United States «has no extradition treaties» with the UAE, this is not the case — the countries signed a mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) back on February 24, 2022 to fight criminals.
«Right now, three of them, Sam, Gary and Nishad, are under surveillance in the Bahamas, which means it will be difficult for them to leave,» said the source, who wished to remain anonymous. The source also assures that Allison is currently in Hong Kong, adding that Dubai is the final destination in her plans.
However, a member of the coinbureau community, citing his source in the US government, said that FTX executives trying to reach Dubai would be detained at the airport and sent back to the United States if they succeed.
Earlier on November 12, there were rumors that Bankman-Fried had landed in Buenos Aires early in the morning. The rumors were spread by Twitter users who tracked the coordinates of SBF’s private jet using the ADS-B Exchange flight tracking site.
Later, Benkman-Fried denied the rumors that he had fled to Argentina in a text message to Reuters, saying he was still in the Bahamas.
