The founder of Cardano cryptocurrency gives a reason why the US may ban bitcoin
Charles Hoskinson, founder and chairman of the Cardano blockchain, has warned that new recommendations from the US government will not do bitcoin and other crypto assets any good. He explained that a report from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy calling on federal agencies to create environmental standards for mining could lead to a complete ban on bitcoin.
The White House report suggests that miners reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the participation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DoE).
According to Hoskinson, the EPA and DoE are going to start negotiations with cryptocurrency companies to make changes to the way they mine cryptocurrencies. He added:
«In what way? Miners must meet standards of very low energy intensity, low water consumption, low noise, clean energy use, and standards that will be tightened over time to achieve carbon-free mining.»
And if these measures prove to be ineffective, Congress may consider legislation that limits or eliminates the use of high energy consensus mechanisms for crypto mining. Hoskinson added that in other words, this can be perceived as a possible ban on bitcoin.
